I believe that AI is here to stay, and with that it will be utilized in different fields. With the evolution and development of Ai ethics and usage, fields that once hated the idea of using Ai have started making strides in using it. IN academic writing especially in high fields needs to be recognized in citations. In medical research AI has been used and it has been argued if the use of it was ethical. Well I believe that writers that have started to utilize Ai are pioneering a new wave of Ai usage. In educational use, it is hard to determine how the use is ethical, students will find a way to tiptoe on the schools guidelines. So it hard to determine if the use of Ai at lower levels is okay. Higher level fields using Ai, if cited, should be fine if the user knows the boundaries and ethics in their respective fields.

Prompting LLM – Derrick Jones Jr.
Today I discovered that Perplexity even has trouble understanding the more complex prompts. But that was for only one style of prompting. Other than that it worked really well. For me personally, since being introduced to it, Perplexity is the most efficient LLM I have used. One big flaw I have realized is how bad Perplexity is to following directions. I have had it follow directions for about 4 prompts until it resorts to a different method, I would then tell it to go back to my directions. So, for me that is my failure of the blog post. I still have high hopes for it as the LLM develops through time. Since being introduced, Perplexity has been more efficient in following directions, though still lacking behind other models.
For me Perplexity has been the most effective for helping me with my course work. Mainly for helping me build a guide for papers or schedules. I started using Claude to assist me write code for my CSci project. Then I started only using ChatGPT for day-to-day questions and finding articles for sports and fitness

Ai Ethics – Derrick Jones Jr.
Since Ai has opened to the public people have been exploiting it to do their work. It’s a very common occurrence that students plagiarize their work with the use of AI. Using AI properly, by learning how to create strong prompts, can benefit students significantly. Since learning how to create strong prompts my performance in class has gone up. It helps summarize notes, spark ideas, and can even give helpful feedback on papers.
So, in class, one of our classmates presented Perplexity to us. As I was experimenting with it in class I realized how strong and beneficial this engine could be. I was able to give it a narrow topic for it to search and a broad topic to search. Each time it pulled reliable, scholarly, and primary sources for me. I started using it to find articles for one of my research assignments and it made an hour process of research in to a ~20-minute process. I showed my other professor the engine the next morning and he allowed me to use it for research, he also believed it was fascinating. So, I’m excited to experiment different types of prompts to see what method is the best to use.
Going into Spring break Professor gave us a group presentation to work on. From the looks of it, all the group ideas are good. I’m excited to see what my group thinks and brings to the table. I think our idea was the best and I have my own opinion on it already. I believe AI should be implemented into education. But to do that we have to teach Ai ethics and learn how different students use and benefit differently from others. I think it’s a process long enough where I won’t be able to see the use of AI rules change in education but it’s something I have high hopes for.
I hope everyone’s break goes well. Stay safe!
Derrick Jones – Class Introduction!
My name is Derrick, but, my teammates call me DJ. I prefer Derrick but DJ is fine too. I am a second year GMDS major and I am very interested in the use of AI since we are the generation that is experimenting on it the most. I am interested in learning how to use AI as a tool and not an exploit. Since learning how to use Ai ethically my academics have benefited from it, so im even more excited to learn more. I enjoy lifting and spending time with my friends and teammates. And I’m ready to finish the year strong and learn how to utilize Ai.
